nato phonetic alphabet

8 Feb

My sister and I separately and serendipitously both try to use the Nato Phonetic Alphabet rather than the usual “B as in Boy, D as in Dog” that people seem to prefer. I had an idea to make a children’s alphabet board book of the Nato Phonetic Alphabet. It would probably be a hit with military families and then you would really learn it by repetition of reading to your kids and you would sound like such a smarty-pants when you are spelling out your unusual name to the Comcast guy over the phone. The only problem is, I’m not sure how to illustrate some of them. Like Quebec.

Let me know when the beta book is available! It’s a great idea. When our kids were little we spelled all the secret stuff in ASL. The kids learned the finger alphabet nearly overnight.

I was just googling to see if anyone HAD made this yet. Please do! I’d buy it! And yes, we are a military family. You could just make the shape of the province of Quebec with a star where the city is on the map. Like a map of the states with their capitals. The kids would get it!

I had this idea too — thought about launching it on Kickstarter!
